The Woodworking Centre of Ontario is internationally known as a center of excellence in woodworking training.
With more than 100 machines ranging from standard small custom shop equipment to typical complex production shop machines, it offers the student an opportunity to become familiar with the broad range of woodworking operations and processes.
Hands-on training from small hand tools to veneering, panel processing, solid wood machining, sanding, finishing, and CAD/CAM/CNC is provided.
There are five main programs offered at the Woodworking Centre.
The Woodworking Technology (Co-op) program is a three year diploma program designed to provide a theoretical and applied knowledge of the technology and skills involved in the efficient and quality-conscious manufacture of furniture, cabinets and architectural millwork.
Production management, industrial engineering, and computer oriented skills are the focus of the final year of this program. The co-op delivery mode provides the opportunity to relate in-school training with real industrial experience.
The Woodworking Technician program is a two year, hands-on diploma program aimed at providinga grounding in the skills and concepts of the woodworking industry.
The Woodworking Machine Setter/Operator is a one year certificate program providing hands-on experience in the set-up, maintenance, and use of standard woodworking machines.
The Industrial Woodworker Apprenticeship Program is administered by the Government of Ontario, and delivered at the Woodworking Centre in three, eight-week in-school blocks during a four year period. Students must be employed with woodworking companies to be registered in this program.
The Woodworking Manufacturing Management Program is a part-time certificate program available to graduates of the Woodworking Technician Program,or persons with comparable industry experience.
Each year, some of the courses in the Woodworking Technology program are offered in the evening. The WMM certificate is granted to students who successfully complete these specified set of courses in this manner.
