Overview

Pope & Talbot Ltd. began operation in Canada in 1969 when it purchased two sawmills in Grand Forks and Midway, BC.

In 1992, it added another sawmill in Castlegar and solidified its position as a major employer in the West Kootenay, Boundary area of the Southern Interior of BC.

The company's mission statement is: "To sustain and enhance the environmental, economic and social benefits that our forest resources provide to our communities, while being successful in the forest products industry."

We have logging operations in Nakusp and Midway that employ many local people both directly and indirectly.

Pope & Talbot Ltd. takes pride in being on the forefront of many developments in sustainable harvesting and co-operates with all industry and government agencies to identify areas of improved environmental management.

Safety of our employees and contractors is another source of company pride.

Pope & Talbot has won several awards that recognize that commitment to safety, including the Interior Lumber Manufacturers' Association's prestigious Chairman's award for various plant and woodlands accomplishments. Safety is number one at Pope & Talbot Ltd.
