Overview

Fairview College has been serving Northwest Alberta with quality programs and unsurpassed service for 45 years. For the past 7 years, the College has responded to specific demands from the forest industry for career and extension programming. First, it was silviculture training - preparing a top quality workforce for the regeneration side of the industry. More recently, through innovative partnerships with industry, it has expanded to other areas of training, including seedling production and woodlot management.

The most exciting venture yet is a partnership with Industry called the Boreal Wood Centre. Thanks to this, the college is able to develop much needed programs to prepare northern Albertans for jobs in the expanding wood processing side of the industry. With the assistance of the Boreal Wood Centre, Fairview College is playing a lead role in industry training in northern Alberta. Industry short courses are being provided in hydraulics, kiln drying, planermill maintenance and sawfiling. Other short courses under development include log grading and edge gluing.

And thanks to industry contributions, students in the North Peace region of northern Alberta are eligible for up to $4,500 in scholarship funds to pursue a career in the forest industries.
